Vision

CLIMATE CHANGE WATCH vision envisages resilient, dignified and sustainable living for the people in Horn of Africa through enhancing their adaptive capacity to the threats of climate change and improves household food security.

Mission 

To support climate change mitigation and adaptation initiatives in the Horn of Africa through promotion of sustainable livelihoods, tree planting, promotion of renewable energy use, respond to humanitarian emergency, enhance resilience capacities, women empowerment, promote peace building and in addition contribute to creating an environmental conscious society.

Objectives

The objectives of CLIMATE CHANGE WATCH  include the following
  • Empowering Governments/NGOs/communities through provision of capacity building, trainings and sensitization workshops on mainstreaming climate change into existing policy processes and rural development strategies.
  • Support National and local initiatives aimed at gearing the country towards low carbon development pathways through promotion of renewable energy use.
  • To undertake research, monitoring and evaluation of community’s climate change adaptation strategies to enhance their resilience capacities.
  • Empowering women from rural to urban areas through mainstreaming gender in climate change  adaptation strategies.
  • Encourage afforestation and reforestation programs to restore forest covers in the Horn of Africa and contribute to global carbon emission reduction targets.
  • Support Governments/NGOs/communities initiatives targeted at resolving climate change triggered conflicts among neighboring communities in competition for pastures and water resources.
  • Enhance the standard and quality of human life through a rise in household food and income security among poor and vulnerable section of the target communities.
  • Improve equitable and sustainable access to, and use of, safe water and basic sanitation services, and promotes improved hygiene to reduce illness and death, and also impact poverty reduction and socioeconomic development.
  • Relieving human suffering as a result of climate change among susceptible populations by providing short term humanitarian aid to meet basic needs and reduce vulnerabilities.

Co-Founder 

Yussuf Abdi is a co-founder of Climate Change Watch. He is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the organization . He is a governance expert and holds a masters degree in Public Policy and Administration. He has extensive experience in both public and private Sector. Among the institutions he worked with include NGOs Coordination Board and International Rescue Committee.

​Abdimajid Nunow is a co-founder of CLIMATE CHANGE WATCH. He is a final year Ph. D. candidate in climate change at the University of Nairobi. He has masters in Climate change specializing in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Management. He has published in International peer reviewed journals on matters environment management, climate change and social cultural dynamics.  He has experience in climate change adaptation and mitigation, Governance& natural resource management, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)  and Monitoring & Evaluation. Among the institutions he worked with include Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources/UNDP/European Union programs on climate change.
